Bringing a kettle of boiling water across a garden and down cobble-stoned steps is one of those tasks that lands you in the emergency department.

You can’t prepare for your fish getting a lid on but it was perfectly clear, this weekend, that a lid was in the making. 

The minute I saw that the car was making like a polar bear, pretty much covered in white fur, I knew that as soon as dawn raised its milky head, I would need to make like Shackleton and investigate the fish pond.
