Agatha Christie might have regarded it as a foreseeable twist in the tale. If last week’s elections’ results point to one aspect of a predictable Irish psyche, it’s our reliance on a modesty that resonates with our scarred past, a tradition that we unfailingly fall back on in moments when we feel threatened.
