It is one of the longest standing exhibitions of its kind in the world and something that we can take pride in.
Some 50,000 people are set to attend the exhibition, which was officially opened by President Higgins in Dublin yesterday and a record number of entries were submitted for this year’s competition.
Its influence goes far beyong the gates of the RDS which houses it each year.
Irish students have taken the top honours 14 times at the European Union Science Contest.
Irish young scientists have also scooped more than 20 top awards to date in the Science and Engineering Fair in the United States.
From small beginnings, it has grown to encourage young people to focus on science and technology in their studies and to draw inspiration from their teachers and their fellow students.
