What memories! - Robbie Keane

WHILE the Olympics were undoubtedly a disappointment, our sporting elite continue to be Ireland’s finest ambassadors, not just in sport but as an example of what it means to be Irish.
What memories! - Robbie Keane

Robbie Keane, Ireland’s most capped international soccer player, is the finest of the finest in this regard.

Throughout his international career of 18 years, Keane has disported himself with quiet diligence both on and off the field. He has combined seriousness of purpose with an engaging personality, endearing himself to millions of soccer fans worldwide.

His achievements are truly remarkable. He is the all-time record Irish scorer with a total of 68 goals for Ireland’s national team since his debut in 1998, including one against Oman at the Aviva Stadium last night which equalled the great Gerd Müller’s record.

Keane made his final appearance in the green jersey at the Aviva, walking off to standing ovation from the Green Army.

We wish him a happy retirement from international football.
