Now it is surely the time for such praise to be heaped on McGuigan himself as on Saturday his protégé Carl Frampton secured the WBA world featherweight title in New York with a stunning victory over Leo Santa Cruz on what is being regarded as one of the greatest nights in Irish boxing history.
