Religion played no role in Savita’s death

Bríd Smith TD says we need ‘to get religion out of our hospitals’ or ‘we are looking at another Savita case in the future’ (Irish Examiner, May 5).

Three independent reports made it clear that Savita died of sepsis caused by medical mismanagement. Religion played no role in her death. If we are to avoid future similar deaths the changes to our healthcare system, called for in those reports, need to be implemented.

Attempts at obscuring the true cause of this poor woman’s death in pursuit of a pro-abortion agenda can only serve to excuse the delay in making the necessary changes and thereby puts the lives of other women at risk.
