No such thing as right not to be offended

Michael Clifford (Irish Examiner, May 7) is absolutely right about people taking offence (or not ). There is no such thing as a ‘right not to be offended’. And there is certainly no such legal right . That leaves me two paradoxes here.

No such thing as right not to be offended

First, I end up siding with those I disagree with (in this case the priest) rather than those I do agree with, but who are precious enough to get offended. Second, I almost hope somebody does actually get offended here and now.

If I actually mentioned a term for such people, the Irish Examiner would not print this letter.
