Easter Rising had popular support

It is high time to question the unquestioned assertion that the Easter Rising had little popular support at the time.

All the evidence points to the Enniscorthy insurrection being popular in north central Wexford for example. That the execution of a handful of unknown persons would cause a sea-change in public constitutional aspirations in less than a month is simply not credible.

Surprised as they were, the rank and file men and women of the republican forces fought when called on to do so in spite of the odds.
