Celtic Tiger government entirely culpable

It is pathetic for a man of Fr Joe McDonald’s position in society to call for the resignation of two of the leading politicians whose decisions in government rescued us from the calamity of the bankruptcy and bailout of 2010 [Letters, March 15].

Contrast those decisions with the decisions of those in charge of government and financial institutions in the decade before 2010.

The reckless decisions of government and financial institutions of that period bankrupt the country.

As a result this country was in a worse situation than Greece in 2010. Before the recent election, however, it was in a much better situation than Greece.

Now due to the brain dead attitude of our media and people like Fr Joe McDonald, who should know better, of blaming the recent government and not the Celtic Tiger government and banks for our ills it has a choice between a minority government or a one party state.

Because people like him cannot see the vulnerable position in which this recently bankrupt and over-borrowed country is this country could become just as ungovernable as Greece.
