If local council staff ‘made a mess’ of managing water, they should have been sacked. Of course, because these public-sector workers can underperform with impunity, the Government circumvented the ‘unsackables’ problem by inflicting the water authority on the public.
Can’t common sense prevail in water services?

Irish Water must go, and local councils must do the job, under strict supervision and the threat of reduced wages and/or dismissal. Money must be returned to those who have already paid and their details be destroyed in public.

It all seems like common sense to me.
