#GE16 analysis - Political proposals on the cards this Leap Day

IT IS curiously appropriate that today is February 29, a Leap Day, given the shock delivered to our political system over the weekend.

Over the next few weeks our national politicians seem set to send and receive proposals on some unusual, untested and intriguing partnerships.

There is the possibility of a bright new political future ahead of us where the Dáil would play a central, and no longer almost impotent, role. Our just-elected representatives, roaming this political nirvana, will find previously hidden depths of maturity and everyone will live happily ever after - or not.
