Banking inquiry was just a box-ticking exercise

The banking inquiry is on its final legs. What will we learn?
Banking inquiry was just a box-ticking exercise

Nothing. It is six years too late. Why was it stuffed with politicians? Why not independent professional economists and financial experts, preferably from outside the State?

Its terms of reference were ridiculous. It was with a heavy heart that I viewed some of the TV coverage; the panel were not allowed to question in depth nor attribute blame to any of those involved!

The replies they got from the bankers, ex-Taosigh, and developers were a profound lesson in obfuscation.

The only redeeming thing that can be said about the banking enquiry is that it was not handed over to the legal mafia, allowing them to fleece the taxpayers once again as they had done in all the tribunals.
