Curtail drug sale - Illegal drugs on the internet

CONSIDERING the easy and relatively cheap availability of mood-altering substances like alcohol, it is beyond belief that there are still many people who risk their lives and those of others in order to achieve an illegal high.

A house party in Cork on Tuesday descended into something like a horror movie when six young people consumed a drug reportedly bought over the internet.

Much has been made recently about the propensity of Irish people to abuse alcohol but, at least, it is a regulated substance that, taken at moderate levels, will do little harm.

The same cannot be said for party drugs that may contain life-threatening ingredients that can kill at first instance.

The image of the seedy street-corner dealer has been overtaken by the easy availability of illegal drugs on the internet.

Considering that internet service providers are now required to monitor and limit access to illegal child porn sites, they should also be compelled to take action to limit the online sale of illegal substances that can cut short a life in tragic and horrific fashion.
