How interesting it is to note in yesterday’s Irish Examiner (January 18) that Paul Bradford and Lucinda Creighton rue the abolition of town councils.

I can’t help but wonder if this Pauline conversion is motivated by the upcoming general election or by genuine concern for real local democracy.

When I and others fought might and main to retain the most vital and immediate form of local government, we heard not a whisper of support from either of those Oireachtas members.
