From draining to dredging the Shannon

When I was a child, the political mantra of the time was ‘draining the Shannon’.

Now, this election year, I am beginning to hear ‘dredging the Shannon’, and the away-with-the-fairies, ersatz conservation group, An Taisce, are suggesting the digging of canals!
