Yet again, we put the markets before our children

Charities like Threshold, Respond, Cope and Barnados are being used as a get-out-of-jail card by Irish governments to avoid their responsibility to provide proper social services.

They are copying the US and UK models of outsourcing social services rather than putting them on a permanent footing with adequate funding.

Even Dev in the 1930s saw social housing as a chance for Irish families of lesser means to have a stable home.

Nowadays there is a thinking that if we build enough social housing to eliminate housing lists we will upset the markets.

Markets will always adjust to changing times but children living out of hotels may never recover.
