Banking inquiry is just another Fine Gael fiasco

The banking inquiry has finally come to an end, but like so many other things in this banana republic, what have we learned? Nothing.

Banking inquiry is just another Fine Gael fiasco

It was a total waste of €5m, but then, the muppets in Dáil Erring are so used to spending taxpayers’ money on white elephants.

However, one has to ask:

  • Why were the terms of reference so restrictive?
  • What was the point of the exercise, if those responsible could not be named?
  • Why were outside experts not on this committee, as was done in the USA, instead of politicians with their own agendas?

I watched some of the live TV broadcasts; it was a joke. The committee members were only allowed to ask questions, but none were in-depth, due to ridiculous time restrictions. The answers they then got were classic examples of obfuscation and waffle. Indeed, they deserve an Oscar for their performances.

The standout politicians were Socialist, Joe Higgins, and Pearse Doherty of Sinn Féin. The others were a waste of space.

Well done Enda, another fiasco for Fine Gael.
