Alison O’Connor is to be commended for her excellent article (Irish Examiner, November 27).“We pay a high price for less than scrupulous attitude to money”.

However she omitted to mention the ‘elephant in the room’ that is the role of the legal profession in enabling people in Ireland to avoid being held accountable for their actions.

The failure of repeated Government inquiries to meet their objectives due to ‘legal difficulties’ appears to contravene “democratic principles”.
