If Bruton was in charge, 1916 would be different

As we approach 2016 the Fine Gael led government seems intent on raising the volume of what the late Conor Cruise O Brien might describe as ancestral voices of those diverse unelected individuals who brought death and destruction to the streets of Dublin in 1916.
If Bruton was in charge, 1916 would be different

Could this be because they fear being outgunned by Sinn Féin for the celebrations in 2016 which coincides with the forth coming general election with many marginal seats?

I believe if John Bruton was still leader of Fine Gael he would tone down the forthcoming celebrations lest they bestow upon us similar events as in 1916 such as the blowing up of Nelsons Pillar which was the prologue to great loss of life in pursuit of a ‘United Ireland’.
