He has always been an engaging presence on television but the starring role of his mother in 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy proves that together, they are more than the sum of their parts.

The TV show was a winner at the 2015 International Emmys last night, picking up the award for Best Non-Scripted Entertainment. It has now been sold to more than 100 TV broadcasters worldwide.

From sky diving to alligator wrangling, 71-year-old Nancy has proved to be as adventurous as her son.

American audiences weren’t initially keen on the show, believing that he was actually trying to kill his mum.

But they soon learned — as we already knew — that the most endearing feature of the show was the real love and affection between mother and son.
