Women can get their issues on the agenda

Alison O’Connor is right to advise women to question canvassers and politicians in the forthcoming election on female equality [Opinion, November 20].

She should remind voters, especially women, that the issues she mentions as important to women are likely to receive more attention if more women are elected.

With a much bigger proportion of candidates likely to be women, this election is an opportunity to increase women’s representation from its historically very low level.
