Thanks to the stranger who helped me in Cork

I don’t know whether this is the kind of letter that you publish but this is the true news and there is no other way I can truly register my gratitude to the gentleman concerned.

Thanks to the stranger who helped me in Cork

On Friday, October 2, a little before 2pm in the afternoon, I was lost. Utterly lost.

I had missed the exit slip road from the N40 to Cork Airport.

I drove round a few back streets which I hoped would take me back to the main road, and stopped when I came to a post office.

I asked a gentleman in the queue if he could tell me how to get to the airport.

He started giving me directions, but realised that I didn’t know the area at all and suddenly said: ‘Go to the top of the road, turn round; I’ll wait for you and you can follow me until the road to the airport is obvious’.

I was flabbergasted and almost teary with gratitude (I am not a young woman).

I did as he said, and reached the airport.

Of course, I do not know his name; but his car was a cobalt blue Vauxhall [or Opel] Meriva.

I will always be extremely grateful for this act of kindness to a complete stranger who wasn’t even from his own country.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
