It is far from heroic to murder children

The children, aged between four months and nine years, who all were injured, only survived thanks to the heroic actions of their dying father who ushered them to safety.
We are continuously lectured by Palestinian support groups in Ireland about the heroic struggle of Israel’s Arab community, I reject this analysis, there is nothing heroic about murdering two parents in front of their children. Moreover, Hamas and Fatah, who are portrayed as potential moderator peace partners clearly welcome these terror attacks which are publicly and collectively praised. The attack on the Henkin family was depicted as heroic by Hamas’ Spokesperson Mahmoud al-Aloul, a senior member of the Fatah Central Committee. It has to be sad this callousness is almost atavistic in its hatred.
The shooting came hours after Israel’s PM said he was prepared to resume peace talks with the Palestinians. Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly in New York he would re-start negotiations “immediately” and “without pre-conditions”, but that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was not interested. It is therefore clear that peaceful coex’ is no longer on the agenda for the Palestinian Authority, and one has to wonder if this is a precursor to an all out attack on the Jewish state?

Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly in New York he would re-start negotiations “immediately” and “without pre-conditions”, but that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was not interested. This would seem to support the argument that Abbas is going to war status and preparing for conflict. It also reinforces Desmond Fitzgerald’s astute analysis of multiple Palestinian rejections of Israeli offers of peace (Letters, 2 October).
To further inflame tensions, two Israeli men who were killed Saturday evening in a terror attack in Jerusalem’s Old City and died of their wounds shortly after being stabbed in Jerusalem’s Old City by a Palestinian terrorist who also wounded two small children in his cowardly attack. Will the IPSC now find some way of justifying these barbarian acts as those of heroic freedom fighters or will they join the civilised people of Ireland who utterly condemn these heinous acts?
