Costly name changes amount to a hill of beans

We have had water supplied through our taps for many years, paid for, in my lifetime, first by rates and then through national exchequer funding. Now, with a consultancy cost of €80m, it becomes Uisce Éireann and we are going to have to pay water rates.

We used to have telephones supplied through the Department of Post agus Telegraphs, then it became Telecom, then Eircom. Now, with a consultancy cost of €16m, it becomes Eir.

Our postal service, having been quite successful as the Department of Post agus Telegraphs,
