We do not need lessons in governance from UK

In his recent TV programme David McWilliams went to London - a centre of colonial power for centuries - to get someone to denounce this small democracy and former colony as a ‘pariah state’.

We do not need lessons in governance from UK

This is the same colonial power that cleared large areas of this island for the plantation of its own minions.

This is the same colonial power that introduced penal laws which deprived Irish people of their commercial, economic and political rights for hundreds of years.

This is the same colonial power that supervised a famine on this island in which a million died and another million emigrated.

This is the same colonial power that failed to implement its own act of parliament giving self rule to the people of Ireland.

We in this small country may be a long way from perfection but David McWilliams should realise that there is not much credibility in people with that background giving us lessons on morality.
