We can run our own Navy

Mr Mulvany’s campaign, which Sean O’Riordan reports on, (‘Global support to honour Irish Navy veterans’, August 26) is another thinly disguised attempt to compromise Ireland’s long established and most successful national defence policy, by highlighting “global support” for the recognition of the heroic action of our sailors on LÉ Clíona all those years ago.

We can run our own Navy

The most honourable course to follow for former members of our Naval Service Pat O’Mahony & Bill Mynes, would be to distance themselves from a campaign which relies on odious challenges by foreign military sources to our Government’s management and administration of our defence forces which they had served so commendably and with great gallantry in the past.
