I have just received a form from the local authority to complete so as to be included on the register of voters.

Councils should not be sending data to industry

However, unless I specifically opt out my details will also be included in an ‘edited register’ which may be used for direct marketing by commercial or other organisations.

Is it right that such authorities be involved in supplying personal details to commercial firms?
