This shortage is particularly acute amongst those who need and provide refuge from threat as well as a place to live.

Good Shepherd Services (GSS), a dedicated Cork city charity has warned that family homelessness is reaching a new level of crisis and that they cannot always provide beds to women and children. GSS provided 5,395 emergency bed nights to 113 women and children in the first three months of this year and this represented a 23% increase in demand on the previous corresponding period.
