Danger of government winning three elections

In his article on August 6 in the Irish Examiner, Shaun Connolly wrote that the Taoiseach’s intention to win three general elections had “sparked outrage”.

Danger of government winning three elections

That contrasts sharply with the attitude that was prevalent in the media when a former Taoiseach won three elections in a row, between 1997 and 2007.

The attitude then was acquiescence. In fact, one commentator declared that the former Taoiseach should stay there ‘till hell freezes over’.

I think that we should change governments often to keep them from getting too arrogant.

We should remember that electing the former Taoiseach three times ended with a bankrupt country.
