May the force stay away from Sceilig Mhícíl

Sceilig Mhícíl and Star Wars: worlds apart and both mighty forces... I read (on Irish Examiner July 24) with concern that a second Star Wars film crew may yet descend on the ‘world heritage site’ of St.Fionán, west of The Iveragh Peninsula in Co. Kerry.

May the force stay away from Sceilig Mhícíl

This shrine is such a huge part of our Irish heritage. I am saddened to contemplate the invasion of this cultural property and its ecological environment and the resulting disruption of nesting wildlife therein.

The Irish Film Board remain tight-lipped and there is no one available for comment, no vehement denial emerging, which is more alarming.

It is my personal wish that our treasured island is left in its peaceful setting and under the watchful eye of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, who will, I hope, strive to maintain it as an Irish national treasure mar a bhí ar dtúis mar atá fós agus mar a bheidh...
