Irish waking up to their TDs being ‘the toadies’
It seems, once elected, Irish politicians can then ignore promises made during the election campaign and, worse still, believe they have no further responsibility to refer major decisions to the people.
The bank bailout is an example. This decision was made by two government ministers.
Now that the Greek government has shown the way in democracy, by referring a major decision to the people, I would suggest Irish politicians should take note. The Irish people are now realising that politicians pander to the social/political elite, and these politicians are now seen by many as ‘toadies’ for the ‘bully boys’ of Europe.
Having lived in many countries where the ultimate action against politicians was taken by the people, I would not like to witness the same here.
