Do not cancel Angelus just for immigrants

There has been discussion about cancelling ‘the Angelus’. As somebody who does not attend church or a meeting house, I would like to offer some comments.

Do not cancel Angelus just for immigrants

‘The Angelus’ has been part of Irish culture and tradition for years. Why should this be changed to satisfy a minority in our society?

I consider it unfortunate that some ‘newcomers’ to our land should challenge, or complain about, our culture and our traditions.

Many of those newcomers are from societies where religious beliefs other than the majority are not accepted and those who practice same are subjected to harassment, intimidation and violence.

Those who are unhappy with Irish society, culture and traditions are free to move elsewhere.
