It might have been terrible for the order to have to cancel its first Vatican ordination, and questions might have been asked, but the fallout from its vanity meant that not only was Smyth repeatedly in flagrante delicto, he inflicted himself upon children and ruined their lives.

So it would have been better had the Norbertine order been disgraced decades ago, rather than having Smyth get his evil way with children.
