Irish politicians calling for Halawa release should be sure of all the facts

Irish oppositions politicians have called on the Government to secure the release of an Irish citizen, Ibrahim Halawa, who is awaiting trial in Cairo. While visiting family there, Halawa became involved in anti-government demonstrations.

The Egyptian ambassador alleges there is video footage of Halawa addressing demonstrators and says he was there to help “establish an Islamic State.”

The politicians calling for the release of Halawa should clarify their position in relation to Islamic states. They should also clarify if they support Irish citizens travelling abroad to help establish Islamic states.
