Cork’s county board needs new life

All credit to Waterford’s hurlers, who were deserving winners last Sunday, but it was another disappointment for Cork. As fans, we are now reaping what our county board has sown with years of underage neglect.

Cork’s county board needs new life

There is now a generation of players from rival counties with no fear of Cork, we are the soft touch in Munster hurling and going further and further away from Kerry in football.

Not only are we not producing players but rather than appointing people with the best track record, there is only one way our fortunes are going. How can our board think it is right to appoint people with minimal coaching experience, that an inter county job is where they learn the basics of management and not at club level?

Nobody will be held accountable for our decline. The county board members play musical chairs when their various terms are up but nobody gets eliminated.

Like a Government department, the county board will set up committees and review groups to look at why we are not winning but nothing will change.

They will spin narrow defeats as something to be celebrated but that kind of talk is for losers.

Cork GAA is rotting and it is a great pity that the clubs have not got the desire to bring about change.

At the end, even Sepp Blatter had the decency to resign.
