Risky legislative changes for very limited effect

However, research tells us approximately 1.6% percent of the population identify themselves as gay or lesbian. Further research shows where same sex marriage has been legalised only 25% of gay and lesbian people availed of it. So essentially we are being asked to radically change the definition of marriage to accommodate approximately 0.4 percent of the population ie, one person out of every 250.
Redefining marriage however has far reaching consequences for all. It changes how we understand the concept of family and it also affects the right of a child to a mother and a father.
