Seanad reform should be a referendum issue

Noticably absent from proposals to reform the Seanad is its use as a stepping stone to the Dáil, a consolation prize for those who have been rejected by the electorate in elections.

All the party leaders are on record as supporting this reform.

However, when this was put to Pat Rabbitte, he unctiously replied that there was nothing he could do short of another referendum. (Hee, hee). What nonsense.
