Which same-sex ‘pastimes’?

Martin D Stern doesn’t clarify what he means by “same-sex activities” [Irish Examiner, Letters, April 17], so I can only infer that he’s referring to two women playing tennis or guys playing football together.

In that light, I’m happy to confirm that such pastimes are considered normal here in Ireland and I would imagine that the same applies in his own country, the United Kingdom. I’m also happy to confirm that the civil marriage-equality referendum on May 22 is about whether or not same-gender couples should be regarded as equal before the law.

No views are being forced on anyone and the various religions will still be free to decide who should or should not get married in their ceremonies.
