Community action saves Sarah’s welly boots

Sinn Féin councillor John Sheamus Ó Fearraigh was contacted recently about a road that was becoming increasingly impossible to negotiate.

Community action saves Sarah’s welly boots

The road led to the home of Sarah McGee of Calhame, Shéan Baile, An Falcarraigh. It was a request from this lady who is in her 80s and lives alone, to have the road resurfaced or at least have it repaired.

Rather than sticking his hands in his pockets and ignoring her plight, he got in touch with Cassidy’s Sand and Gravel quarries and asked if there was anything they would be willing to do to help. Agreeing it was for a justifiable cause, they supplied three loads free of charge and under the stewardship of Kevin Barret and the community voluntary scheme who were very obliging in their efforts to help, the sleeves were rolled up and the repair work was completed. Sarah no longer has to wear Wellingtons to navigate her way out from her home.
