Another blow - Cork Airport

CORK Airport seems to be suffering a death by a thousand cuts. Aer Lingus Regional has confirmed that it will reduce the number of flights on its Newcastle and Glasgow routes this summer. The changes at Cork will facilitate a service from Shannon to Birmingham.

However, a twice-weekly links to Rennes and Jersey from Cork are to be reopened. New services to Cardiff, Ibiza, and Prague were announced recently but freight services cease at Cork from June 1 when they will be transferred to Shannon.

Shannon Airport has enjoyed a new lease of life since it achieved independence and is to be congratulated for that wonderful achievement. The fact that it was relatively debt-free and enjoys a €38m annual rental income contributed to that revival.
