Ban commercial netting

MEP Seán Kelly representating the “fishing community” wants our efforts in bass protection recognised by the European Parliament so our commercial fisherman aren’t disadvantaged under new policies.

Ban commercial netting

Our efforts have been poor with ongoing illegal netting in no-go areas and commercial pair trawling in sensitive estuaries.

The other “fishing community” that run angling tourism, guest houses etc is on its knees as our fish stocks are dangerously low and as our coastal environment is being destroyed for the commercial benefit of the few.

If Mr Kelly is really serious about fishery protection of our bass, salmon and a sustainable marine environment then we must surely ban all commercial netting within two miles of our coastline with an inshore coastguard resourced to fully police it.
