THIS week Taoiseach Enda Kenny and some senior ministers twice presented themselves as hand-tied supplicants dependent on the kindness of strangers who might do the right thing — hopefully before an election is called.

They presented themselves as bystanders unable to do anything other than suggest a remedy and complain that one had not been forthcoming.

They behaved like political agony aunts, all aflutter with blushing concern rather than being the kind of fair, strong leaders they were elected to be.
