Pastoral care role for mental health concerns

May I suggest as an additional support to those suffering from mental health concerns as detailed in Irish Examiner (March 19), a timely celebration of the Sacrament of Confession?

In my confessional ministry I frequently have occasion to refer penitents to medical assistance. I wonder if doctors and psychiatrists appreciate the healing effect of Divine Mercy and reciprocate the counsel?

It is no coincidence that Pope Francis initiated our recent and very successful ‘24 Hours for the Lord’ and has just announced a Year of Mercy. God knows we all need it.
