Bankruptcy would allow people to start again

I loved Ross Maguire’s column (“Bankruptcy is the game-changer to force the banks’ hands”, Irish Examiner, March 3). The idea that people in arrears might keep their homes, cancel their debts, and start again was a relief. All those financially stressed young people need a break.

The arrogant organisations whose rabid, greedy policies dragged us into 30 years of debt, and who harass others for their last few euro, should be be thwarted. Legislation should require that all parties in mortgage arrears be notified of the bankruptcy option. They could cancel their debts, keep their houses, and start again.
