Varadkar would be ‘brave’ if he tackled health crisis

It is tedious to see and hear media coverage of Health Minister Leo Varadaker’s personal life, and his “brave” decision to come out as gay.

Varadkar would be ‘brave’ if he tackled health crisis

I see nothing brave about it. Photos of broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan congratulating Varadkar make me want to be ill.

It would be better, and braver, if Varadkar did what the Irish Nurses’ Organisation asked him to do last year, and if he spent 12 hours in an emergency facility.

He refused then, with some meaningless excuse. My friends who are gay, of whom I have many, do their jobs and do not bleat about coming-out, much less think that coming-out qualifies them to lead this country.

So, do your job, Mr Varadaker. Sort out the emergency departments (ED) and hospital waiting lists. You are paid handsomely to do it.
