You were meant to be reading an article that began: “My teenage boys are sleeping upstairs. Any minute now, they’ll be down to raid the fridge and go on the internet. This is what our teachers are doing to our children, blah, blah, blah.”

But the truth is that the strike is fine. The winter is hard in Ireland. I hate getting up when it’s still dark, and I hate getting four children off to school.

Two children is quite enough for me and the ones who are still in primary school get up later. Just packing two lunches, instead of four, seems like a holiday to me.
