Israel ignores its illegal settlements while citing Palestinian ‘violations’

Without irony, the Israeli deputy ambassador lists apparent violations of the Oslo accords, which she says justify the withholding of tax revenues from the Palestinian Authority (Letters, January 10).

Israel ignores its illegal settlements while citing Palestinian ‘violations’

She cites the clause by which the PA undertook to give Israel exclusive jurisdiction over Israeli nationals in the West Bank.

Nowhere does she mention the significant increase in illegal Israeli settlements on the West Bank.

These settlements make any Palestinian state on the West Bank untenable.

Repeatedly, the Israeli government, supported by the US, has said there should be no preconditions to negotiations, including any attempt to leverage off previous UN resolutions.

This is not the engagement of equals. Until the US takes action against illegal Israeli activity, there is no hope.
