Taoiseach needs to realise rail is the future

Reports regarding the increase in passengers on the Galway-Limerick rail route in recent months are refreshing.

By contrast, the Taoiseach’s recent comments on the future of the Western Rail Corridor can only be seen as a catastrophic failure of imagination.

Is he unaware that rail freight from Ballina is making an increasingly significant contribution to Iarnród Éireann and Ireland’s recovery?

It is reported that there are now moves afoot to reinstate rail freight to and from Foynes.

Profitable rail freight should be travelling down the line directly from Ballina to Foynes.
