The Cork Youth Orchestra is music to my ears

I enjoyed the excellent concert at Cork City Hall, which starred the lovely New Zealand jungfrau, Hayley Westenra, ably accompanied by the Cork Youth Orchestra.

The Cork Youth Orchestra is music to my ears

It is a tribute to the orchestra, which was founded the same year I was born (1958), that it can attract world-class performers, like Hayley and Michael Ball, to sing with it.

Hayley is the best crossover female classical/pop star at present.

I bought her first CD, Pure, 10 years ago. Full marks to your sister paper, the Evening Echo, for co-sponsoring the concert.

In the list of members of the orchestra in the programme, there were 28 boys and 100 girls, a slightly skewed gender mix.

Finally, I hope that the orchestra received its fair share of box-office proceeds, as it must be expensive to run.
