Kerry supporters looking forward to a big day

I understand that a family wedding has prompted Ulster senior club football champions, Slaughtneil of Derry to request a change of date for their All Ireland semi-final fixture with Austin Stack’s, The Rock, Tralee from Saturday, February 14 to Sunday February 15.

What day could be more appropriate for a wedding than the romantic St. Valentine’s Day, when love permeates the air?

I’ve no doubt that quintessential sportsman, Aidan O’Connor, Austin Stack Club chairman, and his executive committee would have no problem in facilitating the Derry men. However, a decision on the request is, more than likely, the reserve of the powers that be in Croke Park.

If the newly-weds attend the game on Sunday afternoon they will be greeted with a standing ovation from the colourful Rockies. We will wish them long life and happiness in their married life together. We will pray to St Brendan, our Patron Saint, to bless their union with a flock of future Slaughtneil players. Most of all, our Super-Rockies team will do its best to ensure that their honeymoon is not interrupted by making it unnecessary for them to be in Croke Park for the All Ireland club final on St Patrick’s Day.
